Independence Day

Independence Day In
contrast to the 44th president of these United States of America many if not
most of the previous PotUS' had conventional Christian beliefs. Admittedly not necessarily
the same as twenty first century evangelicals of these times. Records
indicate that we have had: 4
Baptist, 1 Catholic, 2 Congregationalists, 3 Disciples of Christ (including LBJ
& Reagan), 2 Dutch Reformed, 12 Episcopalian (including FDR,Ford,Geo. H.W.
& "dubya") 4 Methodist, 7
Presbyterian, 2 Quakers, 4 Unitarian, and 6 nondenominational (including Pres.

Jefferson wrote to William Short on October 31, 1819, he was convinced that the

How we need a national leader, a person of bold, humble Faith in God and Jesus
to inspire us as a nation and people to respect one another as our selves. A
leader with similar qualities of states-men-ship and faith of Washington, Lincoln,
and others for the future. Lincoln
is quoted saying; "I have
been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had
nowhere else to go." I
pray that the Lord raise up the faithful, honorable person for the presidential
position that will pray as the predecessors have prayed. "Almighty
GOD; we make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy
holy protection, that thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate
a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a
brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of
the United States of America at large. And finally that Thou wilt most
graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy and to
demean ourselves with that charity, humility and pacific temper of mind which
were the characteristics of The Divine Author of our blessed religion, and
without whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation.

Memorial Day 2014

Memorial Day 2014 I assume Memorial Day is personal
for everyone but for me it began with a trip to the cemetery about 2nd or 3rd grade.
It was probably way before that but that is my first memory, we were there to
tend to Grandma Mary Jane's resting place. I can kind of remember the site
marker and pulling weeds, raking and making the grave site look clean. The last
time there, was as a teenager with my
paternal Grandfather Robert H. Lewis (WW-I Veteran), Mary Jane was his mother. Now it is
many relatives including my Father a U.S. Navy Veteran, Pearl Harbor survivor
(7 Dec. 1941) and numerous other pacific naval battles during WWII. Robert Rolf
Lewis, Sept. 29, 1919 - Sept. 24, 1992. R.I.P. I will
mention here another personal connection; I remember Kenny from the 1st day of
school, I chose a seat near Billy, because my mother and his mother spoke to
each other outside of school when dropping us off for our 1st day of class,
Kenny was across the isle. At the end of the day they lined us up by the color
of paper that our names were on, pined to our shirts early that morning. Billy,
Kenny & I where in the same line, same color of name tag and they marched
us onto the same big yellow school bus. The next morning when I got on the same
big yellow bus I saw Kenny's face about half way back by himself, I plopped down
next to him. Three stops later Billy came up the steps of the buss and slid in
text to us. That went on every school day until one us got a drivers license in
high school. Kenny had a black & silver 1957 Chevy coupe, man was he cool ! From 1st grade to graduation. Kenneth A Butler,
